As the year ends: A message to my former self.

Who knew that 2014 would be such a wild ride for you? Who know that this year, you would not simply turn 20 but change the course of your life entirely?

I guess you can say when I started 2014, I expected it to be just like every other year. Maybe a little heartbreak and some good times but overall, just another year.

As the year progressed and more of my life crumbled in front of me, it seems like more of it came together.

As things got worse, we were tested. What could I take? Was I going to be okay?

To my surprise, this year has been the most painful and most wonderful year wrapped into one.

By April, I started dating my best friend and the perfect boyfriend.

By May, My Grandmother had passed away.

By August, I had to learn what its like to be self sufficient.

By October, I took my first cross country trip alone.

Although I can’t give myself an A+ on everything that has happened this year, I will say that I have learned how to take the good and the bad,

I have learned how to accept the bad things and find something good out of every experience I’ve had.

I have learned to believe in a little thing called karma and find solace in the simple things.

As January nears, I am learning how to embrace the thought of another wild whirlwind of a year but nothing will compare to 2014; the year I learned to be myself.

I want to thank anyone who has read my blog or been a part of my life in the past few months. Thank you for reading my words or helping to heal my heart.

As this year comes to the end, I want to think about what the future holds. Next year I will turn 21 and who knows what sort of discovery will come.

In the next month over winter break from school, I hope to find more of myself I haven’t seen in a while and change just a bit more in the next year.

What are your goals for the year? Where will you be hoping to go?

Glittering and shimmering, all the way through the holidays!

I always have the hardest time deciding what to wear for Christmas.
I want that perfect look that’s….just perfect for the holiday and Mr feel festive.

This year, it isn’t my outfit I’m worried about….its my makeup and hair!

I wanted to share with you the looks that are in the running to be some of my favorite holiday looks!

So let’s start with makeup!

Nicole Guerriero is one of my favorite youtubers, I can always look to her to give me the best new look to try. Her newest tutorial showcases bright and shimmering eyes with a bright matte red lip.
Although I don’t know if I can pull it off quite like her, I’m so ready to try this tutorial!

Now, as much as I love the matte red lip, I was afraid that it might be too powerful for me. I’m so pale that I’m always so scared its too much for me.
I’ve also really wanted to try the ombre lip trend and I was too scared that it was going to be too hard but thanks to Pop Glam, I am no longer afraid! This tutorial showcases both day and night ombre lip looks, and both are so simple! I can’t wait to try these out!

I have one more top contender, SunKissAlba has the cutest cranberry eyes tutorial! She makes it look so simple! It isn’t too bright but rather just the perfect tones to go with any holiday outfit (I may be playing favorites here)!

AND you can’t forget about hair!

I can honestly say, I wish I was Blake Lively. Like can we talk about how gorgeous she is?
I freaked when I saw Pop Glam’s Blake Lively braids and waves tutorial!
How perfect is this for the holidays? Pair it up with one of those gorgeous makeup tutorials I just showed you and BAM! The perfect holiday look.
This is seriously my new found obsession, I can’t wait to try it out!

Another tutorial that I’m obsessed with is a cute and simple wave look from Lulu’s! Its so simple and easy to follow!
It looks like something I might actually be able to do!
Its an understated look, very simple, but powerful. Its so Lana Del Rey chic and its perfect for any occasion through there holiday season!
It could be a perfect look for an ugly sweater party !!!

There is one last tutorial I’ve found that I really can’t wait to try!
Now, I know a just a simple bloew dry isn’t exactly a holiday hair do, but I decided the holiday season was the perfect time for me to start attempting to get the perfect look in the easiest way!
I found a wonderful tutorial from A Cup Of Jo and its just perfect!
The instructions seem easy to follow and not confusing at all, and she even tells you all the things you need to know about the technique so I can honestly say I am so excited I found it!
Now blow drying my hair might actually not make me look horrible!

So here’s to hoping your holidays are all shimmery and glittery and bright!

November Birchbox Review!

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint

I really enjoy this product. I have dry eyelids and can’t wear to much on them but this tinted moisturizer has been a lovely addition to my face. I put a dab on my eyelids to give them a bit of shine and it makes me feel so much prettier.

I have such a thing for tinted moisturizers and this one has such a lovely shine for me and its great!

The price is $38 for a 1.7oz tube so it is pricey for just a tinted moisturizer but it does a nice job. If you just want something light on your skin this is the way to go!

Number 4™ Super Comb Prep & Protect

This product has been heaven sent for my hair. For any girls who have longer hair, you know that brushing that hair out after a shower can sometimes be a nightmare. For me, I have some breakage around the tips that basically locks my hair together if I don’t drown it in conditioner (thank goodness for Dove). I’m used to using that no-more-tangles type of comb through serum that we all used when we were children but this is so much more adult and smells lovely.

For $32 for a 200ml bottle, it is well worth it to save your hair some trauma or just to make combing through much more wonderful. I love this product and I’m so happy to have gotten a sample!

Chuao Chocolatier Assorted ChocoPod

I love Chuao Chocolate. Its seriously my newest addiction when it comes to candy (I have such a sweet tooth). The mini bar I got in my box was the Pop Corn Pop bar. It was amazing. Its a familiar taste, salty and sweet, with a little POP! Yes, popping candies are inside of this chocolate bar. Its so yummy.

From Birchbox you can get a box with 8 small chocolate bars for around $10, but you can buy a full size bar from Target amongst other places for around $3-$6!

I, so far, have tried the Salted Carmel bar as well and I’m so obsessed.

Eyeko Fat Eye Stick Birchbox Trio

I really liked this. Like I said earlier, I have dry skin on my eyelids (ugh I have too many problems, right?) so this is smooth and creamy without being overpowering. I can just do a dab of color and smudge it in or get a little bit of a glow.

I got the lightest in the kit for my sample, although I’m not sure the name of it, and it really works for me. I don’t like heavy eye makeup (as much as my younger self did at least) and it really does a great job of illuminating without drowning out the eyes and making my eyes look like they’re sunken in my head.

From Birchbox, this trio set is $15 dollars. I believe that these colors are limited edition because every where I’ve tried to find them they are freakin’ sold out. But from what I can tell, they retail in anywhere from $6 to $9 a piece so this bargain on Birchbox is a steal!

Harvey Prince Petaly Noir

I love this smell. I’m not one for perfume, usually just a splash of body spray is enough for me, but this is so lovely and fresh. I don’t find it overbearing and neither does my boyfriend. I like it and he doesn’t think its too much so…even better!

On Birchbox, a 55ml bottle of this perfume is $55 which I don’t think is too bad. Most perfumes are generally pricey unless you’re shopping at your local K-mart so lets be real here…the price is expected but I like the scent and would be willing to drop $55 on it…I’d make it last the next 55 years though…

Camille Beckman Platinume Gold Imperial Repair Hand Therapy

DRY HANDS REJOICE! I have fake nails, which I’m obsessed with, but after leaving the nail salon my hands feel so horrid. For anyone who has fake nails, you know the damage those chemicals cause around the nails and this has just helped make my life easier

I can’t believe how soft my hands feel after. I’ve been using other hand creams but this one instantly made them feel soft and smooth!

A 6oz bottle is $20 so I don’t think thats too bad! If you want a good product, you might have to cough up a decent price so I’m not surprise since cheaper ones I have bought have flopped!

Well worth the money!

Okay so there ya have it! My November Birchbox review.

So far, the is my second box, I love it.

Its worth the $10 a month by far and all the products can really last if used sparingly.

I can’t wait to share with you what comes in my December box!

Here is to hoping you get your own Birchbox and share with me what you get! I love to hear what products you love and what products I should be learning about!

Just a bump in the beauty road!

Okay so let’s be real, its impossible for any girl to get ready without getting distracted.

Or maybe that’s just me?

Well, either way, a bump in the road is not unusual for me.
My morning road to being ready is filled with little distractions, getting sidetracked or even just an extra ten minutes staring at my skin in the mirror.

A routine isn’t a routine without a bump in the road. Even when it comes to makeup.
My makeup routine is full of bumps and its a mess.
With Christmas right around the corner, all of my money has gone to spoiling my lovely boyfriend and not spoiling myself.
Concealer? I’m using some I bought forever ago and didn’t like.
Foundation? I keep switching it up because I’m running out like crazy.

BUT I can honestly tell you, all of these little bumps have been wonderful.
I’ve learned new techniques, new ways to work with what I have.

So I am here to tell you, have no fear when your running out of your favorite things! Sometimes using other things can help strengthening your techniques and make you so much better!

Have you faced any bumps in your beauty road lately?

Rosie the Sneakerhead-Guest Contribution!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Rosie the Riveter, in my eyes, just symbolizes women’s rights. Proving that anything men can do, women can do as well. You can take that statement multiple ways and twist and turn it.

Another thing you can twist and turn is your style. From pretty dresses to tom boy outfits with overalls, you always need to finish off that outfit with eye catching shoes.

Just like celebrities have revamped Rosie to fit them, they have also revamped the shoe game to fit them!

There are plenty of women, some that you won’t even believe, who are not buying their typical six inch heels but are buying the newest addition Air Jordans! All women, from models and celebrities to the casual business woman.

The thing is though we’re just focusing on their sneaker choice. With these famous women keeping up with the Jordans coming out, they are classified as sneakerheads. Just with their job title of model or actress, you can assume they’re probably beautiful for the majority also rich; so of course they have some money in the bank to throw down on some shoes. With being a business women you know they are capable of being dedicated to anything they have their mind set on and one word comes up in mind: AMBITION.

Ambition is needed for anything you wanna be successful in. You need to just stay consistent and ambitious to show off these traits and people have different ways of doing this. This is what Rosie the Riveter has been for women ever since she debuted in 1942; a sign of ambition and a know-how attitude.

Even certain celebrities/singers put their own spin on their outfits with Jordans. Lily Allen is just one of the bunch that does a unique mixture. Even thinking about Lily Allen you just think about a english-woman musician who started her career from Myspace and sold ecstasy to provide for herself. If that doesn’t scream unique I don’t know what does.

“Unique is brave, unique is different, unique is YOU.”

October Birchbox Review

So now that I’ve received my November Birchbox (I can’t even tell you how excited I am), I figured it was time to finally give you a review of the products I received in my October Birchbox.

I can already say that after two months with my Birchbox subscription, its most certainly worth it. I’ve gotten many products in these two boxes that I probably wouldn’t have tried on my own but having them put in front of me I got to experience them and try new things. I love everything I’ve received so far!

A REMINDER: If any of the products you see in this post peak your interest, I have linked the pictures to the Birchbox site where you can purchase that item!

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

I have very sensitive skin and this product was a little bit harsh on my skin but nothing a bit of moisturizer can’t fix. It definitely changed the way my skin looked, I felt the tone of my skin was brightened up after just a few uses. It does a great job of exfoliating and with a good moisturizer afterwards, it totally helps make your face so much softer. Its certainly a good product for an on-the-go quick face wash when you don’t have time to give yourself your full beauty routine.

As far as price point goes, this is a little bit more expensive than I would usually spend on a product but if you want something that will help make skin look and feel better than this is probably where to turn. For a 4.23oz tube, the price is $34 through Birchbox!

Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm

A good friend of mine, she actually writes a wordpress blog TV Gaga, has told me about this product long before I got my first Birchbox. She has been receiving Birchboxes for over a year and this was one of the products she was most excited about. Imagine my surprise when I opened my first box and there it was. I see what she was so obsessed with. This is one of the first BB Creams that didn’t make my skin feel oily or like there wasn’t too little coverage. By using this product and a beauty blender, I was able to achieve such a nice look. Its a very light product that you don’t need to use too much of, it goes on nice and evenly covers the whole face!

It is at the top of my makeup budget, at about $36 for a 1.5oz bottle.

BUT LET ME TELL YOU, if you are looking for a BB Cream that will actually do its job, this is worth it. You need the smallest amount to make it go a long way and if used in small amounts it can last you a long time. The small bottle I got for a sample has lasted me a few weeks now with only a handful of uses but I know for a fact that you can make the larger size go a long way!

They also make many other BB Creams that I’ve heard are all great so depending on what you are looking to get out of a BB Cream, you might want to look in the direction of Dr. Jart+!

Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

I love this product. I have a really hard time finding something to soothe my constantly dry and cracked lips without making them even worse an hour later but this did the trick.

Just the smallest dab of this product can glaze over your lips and make them feel so smooth. It does an awesome job of hydrating and healing and its such a perfect sized little bottle.

At the price of $14.50 for a 15ml tube, I think it may be worth it in terms of helping heal my worst issue in the world. I would certainly spend $14.50 for a product that has worked as well as this one has for me.

amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo

I really liked this dry shampoo. Compared to others I’ve used, it went on relatively clear (I mean it isn’t going to be 100% clear but whatever, I don’t mind) and smelled so great. Its so fragrant as compared to other brands I’ve used and it made me feel better about using dry shampoo to combat my usually oily second day hair.

The sample size bottle I got was basically a travel size and I’ve been keeping it in my purse. A little goes a long way with this product. What I’ve been doing is spraying some in my hair and some into my brush and brushing it through my hair.

On the Birchbox site, a 5.3 oz bottle goes for $21 dollars. If you can make dry shampoo last, its worth the price. Otherwise, a bargain brand will do if you just blow through it like me, but remember, you get what you pay for!

Coastal Scents Revealed 2 Palette

I love the colors in this pallet. In my sample, I only got four small samples of a set called Ballerina. In comparison to the Urban Decay Naked pallets everyone is so obsessed with, the colors I got are literally the ones I use the most when I use my friends pallets. I love the way the eyeshadow looks, you don’t need to cake it on. It goes on so smooth and light. The colors are vibrant and with some primer underneath (I never wear eyeshadow without primer so I couldn’t tell you what it would work like without the primer under it).

The full pallet has 20 shadows and is in my opinion, a perfect combination of all the colors we ALL love to wear. The price, for 20 shadows, is severely less than other pallets that the world obsesses over. The price of this pallet is only $19.95 and its so worth it. The neutral shades are so wonderful and I can’t wait to actually purchase it.

Miracle Skin Transformer Miracle Revival Mud

As great as this product was, the smell was a little bit putrid for me. I’ve only used it once so far but the directions say to use it like 3 times a week so I’m going to give it a few more tries. But I can tell you this much, it does all it says it will. It makes skin feel smooth and tight and well moisturized. For someone like me, with terribly dry skin, I wasn’t upset after using this. It didn’t make my skin irritated or itchy, it literally soothed every itch.

Aside from the smell, which made me gag a little bit but who knows if it bugs anyone but me, I like this product.

For a 3.88 oz jar is $38! Now I can tell you this much, this is another product where a little goes a long way. It goes on smooth like lotion and it will be fairly translucent. You don’t need to cake it up and make your face look like there is actual mud covering it. It soaks into your pores and make your skin all kinds of soft.

Worth the price if your looking for a mud mask that will make your skin like a little baby bum!

10 Things Every Woman Should Know About Makeup

Honestly, if you wanted to know why I love makeup…here ya go! She hit the nail on the head!

Lana Lennox's Blog

Makeup possesses magical powers. I’ve used it to transform myself and others into creatures both beautiful and bizarre. As a professional makeup artist, I’ve taken waif like models and made them mock warriors, brides and fairies for magazines, television and music videos. I’ve worked with celebrities, politicians and Fortune 500 executives.

From nearly a decade’s worth of experiences with color, brushes and people, I’ve learned a few things about what makeup does, what it doesn’t do and how to use it responsibly.

1. Makeup won’t change your life, but it can lift your mood.

Consider the allure of a perfectly done red lip; the mystery of a smoky eye. Nothing can transform a woman from a scrub muffin to a video vixen as quickly as the right makeup applied well. And nothing lifts your mood like seeing that gorgeous creature you’ve become staring back from the other side of the mirror.
